Frequent flyer accrual and redemption on airberlin suspended
airberlin has advised that accrual and redemption of miles/points by members of all oneworld® member airlines’ (and other partners’) frequent flyer programmes for flights on airberlin has been suspended, following the filing for insolvency by topbonus, the company operating airberlin’s own loyalty scheme, and by the airline itself.
Most oneworld member airlines, other than airberlin, have indicated they will honour miles/points earned for flights on airberlin by their loyalty programme members for a period, meantime. Refer to your frequent flyer programme for details.
airberlin has confirmed that redemption flights already booked by members of other oneworld airlines’ frequent flyer programmes for travel on airberlin remain valid.
airberlin has also advised that it will continue to deliver all other oneworld services and benefits to customers from other oneworld member airlines – through check-in for multi-sector journeys under a single ticket and, for eligible customers, access to lounges, fast tracks, priority check-in, boarding, additional baggage allowances, etc.
Likewise, customers from airberlin will continue to receive all other oneworld services and benefits when travelling on other oneworld partners - through check-in for multi-sector journeys under a single ticket and, for eligible customers, access to lounges, fast tracks, priority check-in, boarding, additional baggage allowances, etc.
airberlin’s topbonus has posted a message to and frequently asked questions for its topbonus members on its website.
For all frequent flyer programme queries, please contact your own frequent flyer programme.
As previously reported, airberlin continues to operate as part of oneworld, following the German airline’s filing to commence insolvency proceedings under self-administration, to enable it to continue with its restructuring process. Germany’s federal government is supporting airberlin with a bridging loan to maintain flight operations for the long-term.
airberlin states that this means:
- Flights operated by airberlin and its affiliate NIKI, which is also part of oneworld, will continue.
- Bookings remain valid.
- All flights can still be booked.
